Nanofiltration-Based Metals Treatment - BC Gold Mine

The increasing volume of water stored in the tailings pond at a gold mine in British Columbia demanded strategic water management/treatment updates to facilitate peak production capacity at the mine. Given the exceeding of standards and guidelines, treating the pond water became imperative. Two modular water treatment options utilizing nanofiltration membrane technology were developed, and treatment costs to generate regulatory-compliant effluent were established. Recognizing the significance of sustainability, treated effluent re-use was identified as a viable option, effectively reducing freshwater withdrawal dependence, and aligning seamlessly with both efficiency and regulatory compliance objectives. Our solution not only addressed the essential treatment needs but also benefited the project by avoiding unnecessary discharge considerations, ensuring a streamlined and cost-effective solution.
