Research Engineer

If you have a passion for pioneering wastewater treatment processes, LaFar is seeking a versatile Research Engineer to join our team in Richmond, BC.

This role will encompass research, testing and process engineering responsibilities where you’ll thrive in an interdisciplinary project team, demonstrating proficiency in engineering and mass balance calculations and generating intricate engineering documents.

This position is primarily office-based with fieldwork and business travel mostly in Canada and the United States.

What we are looking for:

• Degree in chemical/environmental/metallurgical engineering.
• Previous experience in wastewater treatment testing and design.
• Demonstrated commitment to health and safety.
• Proficiency in fundamentals of science & engineering with great analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills, through reading, writing, speaking and listening.
• Ability to assemble large data sets from various sources to consolidate assumptions for various engineering analyses.
• Self-starter and ability to work independently and in a group environment.
• Experience with equipment sizing and specification, mass balance and hydraulic analysis.
• Eligible to register as P.Eng in a Canadian province.
• Proficiency in MS Office suite.
• Experience with large-scale systems considered an asset.

What you will be doing:

• Bench/pilot testing of integrated wastewater treatment processes for various industrial applications.
• Consolidate and interpret field/analytical data and compare findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations.
• Prepare technical reports, specifications, process schematics, and layout drawings.
• Perform technology assessments (cost, environmental and sustainability) for internal and external customers.
• Develop conceptual process models and engineering analysis of various wastewater treatment systems.
• Prepare and present findings from project activities to internal and external team members as well as at conferences and stakeholder engagements.
• Provide project support for other senior staff as required.
